Marshals of the Soviet Union: how many of them there were
In 1935 in the USSR, particularly distinguished military men began to be awarded the title of Marshal of the Soviet Union. This title was awarded to 41 men, including Brezhnev, Beria and Koshevoi.
Until the 1930s, personal militaryThe Red Army did not exist. The title of Marshal in the USSR was founded only in 1935. Such a high military title in the history of the USSR was awarded to 41 men. In the same year they were the first five Marshals of the Soviet Union - S.M. Budyonny, K.E. Voroshilov, VK Blucher, AI Egorov and MN Tukhachevsky. The last three were overtaken by reprisals, they were shot and tortured in prison. Later they are rehabilitated, having restored their titles posthumously. In the 1940s, BM was introduced to the rank of marshal. Shaposhnikov, S.K. Tymoshenko and GI Sandpiper. Grigory Ivanovich Kulik overtook the same fate as Egorov and Tukhachevsky. Later the title will begin to be appropriated to each individually, with the help of special decrees. The reason for this was the outbreak of war and an emergency. During the Great Patriotic War marshals became: G.Kh. Zhukov, I.V. Stalin, I.S. Konev, K.A. Meretskov, K.K. Rokossovsky, L.A. Govorov, R.Ya. Malinovsky and F.I. Tolbukhin. In 1945, the general commissioner of state security, Lavrentii Beria, was likened to the rank of marshal. With the arrival of Khrushchev, he was arrested, deprived of regalia and shot. This was one of the few cases when the marshal was not rehabilitated. ON. Bulganin and V.D. Sokolovsky in 1946-1947, as major military commanders, too, were awarded the landmark rank - Marshal of the Soviet Union. These were the last "Stalin" marshals. It is curious that Sokolovsky was more a politician than a military man, and during the war he was in charge of political affairs. Bulganin in the late 50's will be deprived of the title for anti-party activities. By the tenth anniversary of the Victory, the Marshals of the Soviet Union were six military leaders, among them V.I. Chuikov, A.I. Eremenko, A.A. Grechko. In 1959, the marshal's appointment was given to M.V. Zakharov. In the sixties and mid-seventies, another 8 people were represented, among them LI. Brezhnev, N.I. Krylov and P.K. Koshevoy. The last marshal of the USSR was in 1990 D.T. Yazov. Despite the fact that he was arrested as a participant of the State Emergency Committee, he did not lose his rank. The title of marshal has survived today in the Russian Federation.
