Amaryllis is an onion plant with incredibly beautiful inflorescences. It is very easy to take care of it at home, so even an inexperienced florist can cope with this task.

Amaryllis loves heat and light very much. For this, plants need to provide a temperature of about 20-25 degrees and regular bright light. To place the pot with amaryllis it is desirable on the south-east, south-west or south window sill.

Plant should be watered moderately, whilemake sure that the water does not fall on the bulb. Remember that during the rest period, amaryllis watering should be reduced to a minimum. Periodically wipe the leaves with a damp cloth. Spraying amaryllis is optional, since the humidity of the air for it does not matter much.

In the open ground, the amaryllis begins flowering in early spring, and at home - in late autumn. From the bulb grows a flower spike, the length of which is approximately 50 cm.

During flowering, the amaryllis needs regular feeding. Special fertilizer for flowering plants should be introduced once a week.

Amaryllis does not need to be transplanted every year,it is sufficient to change the upper nutrient layer. Transplantation is usually done every three years. The soil for planting can be made up of equal parts of sod and leaf land, a small amount of ash, peat and humus.

As for diseases, amaryllis is prone to gray rot. The main cause is stagnant moisture in the pot. Cure the plant will help special antifungal drugs and the normalization of watering.
