How to find out which program uses the traffic
When working on the Internet, the user sometimesis faced with a situation of uncontrolled consumption of traffic. To understand which application is using the Internet, you should take advantage of the operating system or special programs.
Instructions
1
If the computer is idle during idle timeinteracts with the network, without updating the operating system or anti-virus database files, it is necessary to find a program that uses traffic.
2
First, try to find this program withusing the tools of the OS itself. Open the command line: "Start", "All Programs", "Standard", "Command Line". Type netstat -aon, press Enter. You will see a list of current connections. In the "Status" column, currently active connections will be marked as Established.
3
In the next column, PID, theprocess identifiers. Knowing the identifier, you can understand which program uses this connection. In the same window type and execute the tasklist command, you will see a list of running processes. Immediately after the name of the process is the number of the identifier. Find in this column the number of the identifier interesting you, to the left of it there will be the name of the process of the program. In the event that the name of the process does not tell you anything, type it in the search engine and you will get all the necessary information about it.
4
To find out which programuses the traffic, start shutting down suspicious active processes that have a connection to the network one by one. You can stop the processes in the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) or directly on the command line using the command: taskkill / pid 1234, where 1234 is the process ID that you want to close (it will be different for you). If the traffic has decreased after the process is closed, then you have found the right program. If not, close the next one, etc.
5
You can exercise more complete control over thetraffic using BWmeter. Find it on the Internet, download and run, then open the Details tab. Find the Control panel, click the Start button. In the window of the program, information will be displayed on all ip-addresses with which the computer is connected.
6
To monitor network activity, useprogram AnVir Task Manager. It allows you to see all the network connections and find the programs that use them. With this utility you can find in the registry and the keys to run any programs you are interested in and, if necessary, delete them.
