Why you need to follow a diet for diabetes

Diabetes is either a deficiency in the bodyhormone insulin, responsible for the decomposition of glucose (type 1 diabetes), or a violation of the mechanism of interaction of insulin with the cells of the body (type 2 diabetes). In other words, at the first type the body is not able to produce insulin in the required amount, at the second - insulin is quite enough, but it "does not work as it should".

Why you need to follow a diet for diabetes

Treatment of diabetes mellitus is long andcomplex. As a rule, he must appoint a doctor. In addition to medication, you should definitely follow a special diet. Especially strictly it is necessary to observe a diet for type 1 diabetes, since a violent deterioration of the patient's condition, up to a coma, is inevitable. In particularly severe cases, death may occur. The main purpose of the diet is to limit the intake of carbohydrates, especially easily digestible, and to balance the amount and composition of proteins and fats. It should, for example, exclude sugar from the diet, replacing it with some honey or other product containing fructose (which, unlike glucose, is much more easily absorbed by the body). In the event that you are a sweetie, you can buy special sweeteners in the pharmacy. A patient with type 1 diabetes must ensure that within a day the intake of carbohydrates does not exceed 12-25 "bread units". This is a value roughly equivalent to 25 grams of bread or 12 grams of carbohydrates. The more the patient's body weight and physical load, the closer the number of "grain units" to the upper limit is 25. At each meal, it is not recommended to take more than 7 "units". In general, it is desirable to establish such a power mode, so that the number of "units" is approximately the same each time. Categorically unacceptable alcohol! As for patients with type 2 diabetes (found in most cases), dieting for them is not so vital. Nevertheless, it should also be adhered to, especially because the distinctive feature of this type of diabetes is the overweight of patients, often taking extreme forms of obesity.
