Also in China, there was an idea to celebrate the New Year withtangerines. It happened more than 1000 years ago. During the holiday the Chinese came to the guests and brought with them some fruits, thereby wanting the owners of prosperity, and leaving, received 2 mandarin back to the road. Consequently, the desire for a rich life was completely mutual.

There is an opinion that these citrus fruits wereone of the few delicacies that ripened in December and was delivered from Abkhazia to the Soviet Union. Other sources say that it was not until 1960 that Russian people began to associate mandarins with the New Year, as at that time a dry cargo ship arrived in Leningrad filled with boxes of orange fruit. After that, annually ripened mandarins were brought to the Soviet Union in December.
