Only the status of state in Israel havejust two languages - Hebrew and Arabic. The main one is Hebrew: almost 5 million people speak it, while the total population of Israel is about 8 million. This is one of the most ancient world languages, the history of which, according to experts, has about 3 thousand years. The word "Hebrew" in translation from this language means "Jewish", since the noun "language" in this dialect has a feminine gender. The second official language of Israel is Arabic. Despite the fact that these two languages are formally equal in the state legislation, in practice the order of their application varies significantly. For example, street and road signs in major cities of the country are usually duplicated in Arabic, but in some cases a special court decision was required to inscribe them in that language. In addition to the listed languages, French, Spanish, Romanian, Polish or Hungarian dialects can be heard in the cities of Israel, and about 6% of the population speak Yiddish.
