How and why did the Egyptians build the pyramids

Even the ancients said that even time is not powerfulover the pyramids. Indeed, the grandiose structures, built of carefully machined and fitted to one another stone blocks, have survived to the present day. Till now among researchers do not cease disputes about how pyramids were constructed and for what they were necessary to Egyptians.

How and why did the Egyptians build the pyramids

According to the most common version,Egyptian pyramids are places of burial of pharaohs. They built them in order to perpetuate the names of Egyptian rulers and guarantee them immortality. A few dozen pyramids are known on the territory of modern Egypt. Most of them are in good condition, always causing admiration of tourists. The most famous gigantic structure is the pyramid of Cheops, located in Giza. The researchers believe that it was built more than four thousand years ago. In the works of the ancient Greek historian Herodotus there is an indication that the construction of the Cheops pyramid took several tens of years, and more than ten thousand people worked on the construction. The fact that the height of the Cheops pyramid is 140 m indicates how great the pyramids are, the length of each side of the base is 230 m. Inside the structure there is a system of rooms and walkways. The main room is a burial chamber comparable in size to a small house. When the pharaoh died, his body was treated in a special way, turning it into a mummy. In the room where the mummified body of the ruler was placed, the objects were laid, without which it would be difficult for him to manage in the afterlife. In the funerary chambers of the pyramids, the researchers found richly decorated clothing, jewelry, weapons, household items. These findings indicate that the pyramids were originally built exactly as tombs. Until now, scientists and engineers have not come to a consensus on how the Egyptians built pyramids. To build such huge buildings, which include a huge number of heavy stone blocks, we needed special lifting devices. Ropes, wooden decks and skating rinks for sure, as well as a system of clever blocks, which made it possible to lift blocks to a considerable height. Obviously, the imperfection of ancient technology, the Egyptians compensated using the labor of many forced laborers. Apparently, a stone for the pyramids was mined in the immediate vicinity of the building site, less often - delivered along the Nile from distant places on special barges. Researchers are surprised by the quality and accuracy of fitting massive blocks to each other, which indicates a high technique of stone processing. Unfortunately, accurate information about the technology of erecting the pyramids has not survived to the present day. Towering in the desert stone giants reliably store the secrets of the ancient builders.
