How to choose a guitar
How to choose a guitar
Guitar is one of the most popular musicaltools. Every day, many people decide to finally learn how to play the guitar and go to music stores. But not all of them know how to properly choose a guitar and what to look for first.
The right strings
Choosing a guitar is, oddly enough, to startfrom strings. There are two fundamentally different types of strings: nylon and metal. It is believed that metal strings have a purer and more vivid sound, but learning to play them is much more difficult, since a guitarist needs a lot of effort to clamp. In addition, without professional calluses on the fingertips, clamping the strings at first will be quite painful. At the same time, nylon strings sound only a little deaf and softer, so many beginning musicians choose them. Note that you can not put metal strings on a guitar that is designed for nylon. The fact is that the tension of metal strings is much stronger, so a guitar not designed for them can be deformed. If you put nylon strings on a guitar designed for "metal", then it is unlikely that you will get any qualitative sound: the difference in tension is too great. Choosing a Guitar
Having determined with the strings, you can go tochoosing a guitar directly. Keep in mind that it is better to immediately buy a good tool than to learn to play cheap guitar of poor quality. In addition, good guitars can be found in almost any price segment. When choosing it is not necessary to be guided exclusively by appearance and even more so to order your first guitar through the Internet. It's much better to go to the music store, hold the instrument in your hands, evaluate the sound. A solid upper deck (the front surface of the case with a resonator hole) is a good example of a guitar. Such guitars sound more pure than those in which the upper deck is made of plywood. In addition, this reduces the likelihood of deformation of the tool under the influence of moisture. Carefully examine the case and the neck of the guitar: there should be no scratches, mechanical damages, chips and, of course, cracks. In addition, the surface of the neck should be flat. To check this parameter, hold down any string on the first and last frets: the distance from the string to all modes must be the same. In any case, if you choose your first instrument, it is better to take someone from the more experienced friends in music. However, do not forget that you buy a guitar for yourself, so the final word should still be yours. Learning to play an instrument that you personally do not like is much less pleasant and interesting than on your own guitar.
