Is the Black Sea clean?

The Black Sea can not be considered pure. The marine life in it is under serious threat. And this is not surprising. The Pontine Sea, as it was called in the old days, is one-sixth of the Mediterranean Sea. It flows four times more rivers than other seas of the region. And these rivers are heavily polluted.

The Black Sea is under a severe threat of pollution

Morning dolphins and people poisoning

In July 2012 it was witnesseda huge number of deaths of dolphins, whose corpses were found on the shores of the Black Sea and in the water. According to zoologist Konstantin Andromonov, such a number of deaths is due to a virus that occurs every 20 years. He also notes that the mortality of marine animals is constantly growing. Other experts point to the pollution of water in the sea. Every year there are many cases of poisoning of bathing. This is usually explained by problems with food. According to Olga Noskovets, an ecologist and activist from the city of Sochi, the authorities simply hide the truth. The sea is contaminated with water.

What is the cause of pollution of the Black Sea?

The natural structure of the Black Sea does not contribute to the growth and development of fauna and flora in it. Deeper than 150-200 meters, marine life is absent because of the toxic gas of hydrogen sulfide.
87 percent of the water in the sea does not contain oxygen. And in recent years, its number has significantly decreased.
During the first international conference, devoted to the Black and Marmara Seas, which was held in Istanbul in April 2008, the Honorary Chairman of the Turmpe Civil Movement in Turkey, noted that over 50 years the number of fish species in the Black Sea has been halved. About 90 percent of the pollution is due to industrial and domestic waste. Most of the waste in the sea comes from the Dnieper, Dniester and Danube. The main culprit of pollution is Europe, which discharges domestic and industrial waste into Danube. A lot of harm is caused by sewage drained into the sea by Turkey.

The Black Sea Purification Project

The European Union organized a projectPERSEUS, whose main task is to clean the waters of the Black and Mediterranean Sea by 2020. Compared with many other seas, the Black and the Mediterranean are closed. This is a big problem, because the water cycle in such seas is slower, which contributes to their faster pollution. The emptying of waste can lead to a high concentration of mercury, cadmium, zinc, lead and sewage. A large amount of gasoline is discharged into the sea by motor ships. Pollution occurs as a result of the extraction and spreading of oil, natural gas and minerals. As a result of excessive fishing in the seas, there is a deficit. In combination with people's activities, climate change can lead to irreparable consequences.
The seas play a huge role in people's lives. They generate most of the oxygen that people breathe, regulate the climate, feed, serve as a source of energy and provide an opportunity to relax on their shores.
The task of the project is to return the seas to a healthy and clean state with the help of scientifically developed methods and joint efforts of the neighboring countries of the European Union and other states.
