What is the difference between an Indian elephant and an African
Indian and African elephants are two differentof the family of the elephant family. They differ in appearance, and in nutrition and behavior. The African representative of these large animals is much larger and taller, and weighs, has larger ears and tusks. They differ in nature, behavior and nutrition.
Differences between African and Indian elephants in appearance
African and Indian elephants belong tofamily of elephants and come from one ancestor who lived several million years ago. Today they refer not only to different species, but also to different genera under the same names. The genus of African elephants is supposedly divided into savannah and forest, and perhaps the isolation of East African elephants, but biologists have not yet resolved this issue unequivocally. The Indian genus has only one modern species called the Asian elephant, the rest of this species have become extinct. To distinguish the appearance of elephants - the inhabitants of Africa and India - is quite simple, if you know a few characteristic features. First of all, this is the size - African elephants are taller, bigger and heavier. They grow up to four to five meters in height, stretch out to 7.5 meters in length, and weigh about 7 tons. Their Indian counterparts rarely have dimensions above 3 meters and longer than 6.5, and weigh about 3 tons. African elephants are covered with wrinkles, their skin seems more rough. They have a darker coloration sometimes to brown color, and their Indian brothers are gray, with a smoother skin, covered with small hairs. It is very easy to distinguish elephants from the ears: in Africans they are huge, larger than the head, reaching a length of one and a half meters. They have a rounded shape, slightly protruding upwards and widely apart. Indians can not boast of such big ears: they are modest, several dozen centimeters, angular and directed down, with a pointed end. Representatives of the African species go with a straight back, with some elephants the ridge is even slightly concave. And for the Asiatic species, a convex back is characteristic, because of what they seem sad and drooping compared to their stately comrades from Africa. Other differences between African and Indian elephants
Differences of different types of elephants are notonly in appearance, but also in behavior and way of life. For example, Africans eat mostly branches and leaves on trees: therefore they are taller and have longer legs. Indian animals are more likely to look for food on earth, they do not need to be taller. They differ in character: Indian elephants are more friendly towards people, they are easy to tame, they are calm and good-natured. The people of India adapted them for many works: they transport cargo, perform in the circus, and help in other difficult cases. Their African brothers are aggressive, poorly trained, although they can also be domesticated.
