Water is extremely necessary for any living organism, andcats are no exception. However, even despite all the efforts of owners to comply with the norms of the amount of drinking, the animal can still lose less liquid. The fact is that there are cats who themselves drink little. If the cat does not drink enough water, on the one hand, it allows her body to save water by a strong concentration of urine, on the other hand, can lead to serious health problems.
For reference:
- a natural drink for pets - water and only it,
- Ordinary tap water should not be used, it is better to give your pet bottled or filtered;
- natural food and canned cat food consist of a liquid by 70-80%;
- If the cat eats dry food, it should drink 2-3 times more water than the amount of dry food eaten per day.
Watch your pet for a start. Perhaps a cat drinks little from a bowl or does not touch it at all, because it laps water from under the tap, some vase or a jug. Put in different places of the apartment containers with water of different sizes and colors - mugs, bowls, saucers.
When choosing a place for another container of water, remember that:
- The feeding area should be kept as far as possible from the cat's tray or toilet, if the tray stands there;
- Bowls for food and water should be placed at a distance from each other;
- It is best to use a container made of polypropylene or stainless steel;
- daily wash dishes for drinking with soap or in a dishwasher.
Encourage the pet, praise and iron, callto drink, lightly wetting his paws and the tip of his nose. Put in the water of his favorite toys, so that your pet drink process associated with something pleasant, positive.
In extreme cases, top up the water with a syringe, injecting it into the corner of the mouth. Every day do this procedure and every time after it praise your pet.
Test for dehydration
So that you can understand if enough waterconsume your cat, gently gather her skin in the arm in the area of the shoulder blades, as if you are going to lift the pet by the scruff, and then release it. If the skin is done quickly, then everything is in order. If the skin first stands for a while with a stake, and then slowly expands, this is a sign of health problems. In this case, it is recommended to examine the animal for the occurrence of urolithiasis.
