What is Peat Tablets?

Peat tablets are peat, compressed intowashers of various heights and diameters, fixed on the edge of a fine mesh or geotextile. Poor-quality peat tablets can be packed in polyethylene. On the top of each of the tablets, a groove is provided for planting the seed. Peat tablets are produced either from peat or from coconut fiber. They are interchangeable, and their quality is approximately the same. Soaked both peat and coconut fiber are an excellent medium for germination of seeds in the shortest time. For a typical mixture of soil, sprouts are characterized by a fungus, which is called a black leg, and the massive death of seedlings that results from the defeat. Peat and coconut fiber retard moisture, preventing the spread of rot and mold.

How to germinate seeds in peat pellets

To prepare peat tablets for growingin them seedlings, it is necessary to place them in a high pallet or any similar container and pour water. Some growers recommend using boiling water to protect the material from pests or their larvae that may have settled there. Filled with water peat tablets will increase in size in a minute. If you use boiling water, you will also have to wait for the fluid to cool. If poured tablets with water at room temperature, after 15 minutes, excess water from the tray can be drained, and in the tablets sow seeds. Each seed is sown in a special groove on the top of the tablet and covered with peach fibers 2-3 mm thick. Each tablet is conveniently signed by sticking a tablet with the name of the planted seed in it, so that later there is no confusion. For the early germination of seeds, peat tablets are placed in seedling boxes - special designs with closed transparent caps. There are also heated boxes that will ensure a comfortable existence for the seeds even in winter. Seedlings in peat tablets are grown in the same way as in any other container with soil - it is kept warm and moistened mainly from the spray. Peat pills are convenient in that young seedlings will not be transplanted into them, as is the case if seedlings are planted in a common box. Each peat tablet is simply placed in a container for further cultivation, previously removing the mesh shell from it, and filling the soil with the remaining gaps. The ability to dispense without transplanting and associated seedling damage provides a greater percentage of survival and continuous plant growth.
