How to glaze concrete

Concrete must be ironed to protect the surfaceconstruction against moisture penetration. Zheleznenie can significantly improve the properties and waterproofing characteristics of the material, increase the strength and hardness of the surface.

Blends for the glaze of concrete

The gland method consists in applyingconcrete surface of cement or special powder and in its subsequent smoothing into the body of the structure. For glaze floor use mixtures that include metal fillers made of stainless steel, Portland cement, polymer fibers, fillers with high hardness and modified additives. As fillers, steel fiber, quartz sand, basalt, corundum and other substances with increased hardness are used. The choice of filler will depend on the anticipated loads on the concrete surface, as well as on the requirements for impact strength and abrasion of the concrete surface. In order to make the floor as reliable as possible, it is recommended to iron concrete with mixtures containing stainless steel metal fillers. Liquid formulations containing water-soluble inorganic substances can be found on the market. They react with lime and calcium carbonate contained in concrete. During the reaction, insoluble substances are formed, they fill the microcracks and pores of the upper layer, thereby increasing its strength. Such compositions are characterized by deeper penetration.
To decorate the concrete floor, you can choose mixtures with color pigments.

Methods of ironing concrete

The process of ironing concrete consists in applyingon the surface after its partial or complete solidification of the solution of powdered mixtures or dry cement. There are two ways of ironing - dry and wet. Dry method is used only on horizontal planes, the second kind can be performed on any kind of surfaces. At dry ironing on a little dried concrete surface a layer of sifted dry cement is applied about a few millimeters thick. After a while, the binder absorbs a part of the moisture from the concrete and forms a cement paste. The resulting mixture is rubbed with a grinder or plaster.
Concrete fired in a moist way is characterized by higher strength.
The wet iron is carried out with the help ofpre-prepared wet formulations. They are applied to the surface, and then smoothed out with a plaster shovel to a smooth surface. After ironing, the concrete should be allowed to harden completely. After drying, it can be coated with a polymer compound.
