Tip 1: How to insulate an attic

Tip 1: How to insulate an attic

If you are an individual builder, then perhaps you are facing the task of warming loft his house. Deciding to insulate the floor loft, not adapted for living quarters, youyou will save money, because you do not have to deal with the thermal insulation of the vaults. But at the same time, you can lose space to place unnecessary things. But if still you decide to do so, try to listen to some useful recommendations.

How to insulate an attic

You will need

  • - Roulette
  • - cutter
  • - heat-insulating material

Instructions

1

First you need to find the right oneheat insulating material. Such materials are widely used in the construction and repair of modern buildings. Thus, materials from basalt slabs have a high level of thermal insulation and are not subject to combustion. Therefore, it is very convenient to use them for insulation loft and roofing. The most common among the thermal insulation materials are plates and mats, as well as roll materials. They differ from each other in the degree of insulation and thickness of the sheet.

2

When choosing an insulating material, consider itthermal coefficient. If necessary, select additional thermal insulation material so that the coefficient value is optimal for your construction.

3

Place the selected material on the hard panel, previously placed on the crossmember, because between the beams will still not have to walk. Preliminarily remove the coating, which prevents evaporation. The insulating material must lie directly on the floor.

4

The panels of the first layer are pressed between the beams of the frame. In this case, do not touch the coating to maintain the ability to ventilate. The "mattresses" of the next layer are fixed with rafters. When flooring, cut the thermal insulation material with panels, the width of which is equal to the distance between adjacent beams and with a margin of 2-4 cm.

5

Unfold the material fromthe edge opposite to the entrance. Moving gradually, fill the entire area of the attic space with the material. The insulation should not be knocked out from the upper edges of the beams. It is useful to know that if you need to get sheets of material with the required thickness, you can use a cutter with rough cutters - it cuts glasswool well.

6

In the presence of sheathing, which protects against evaporation,Cut the edge of the scutcheon and quickly cut the material onto the desired cloth. The less joints formed, the better. The quality of insulation is determined by the integrity of the cloths of the material, try not to use the trimming unnecessarily.

7

And one more tip: electrical cables in the boxes will completely transfer contact with glass wool, and metal chimneys should be isolated.

Tip 2: How to insulate the roof of the attic

Thermal insulation of the roof will help reduce heat losshousing, so you can seriously save on heating. Owners of private homes for the most part conduct insulation independently, without recourse to hired labor.

How to insulate the roof of the attic

Thermal insulation of the roof is mainly madeIn those cases where an attic space in the future is planned to be used as an attic. If the attic is uninhabited, it will be sufficient to perform the insulation of the attic floor, that is, the floor in the attic or the ceiling of the house, if the work is done from the inside. The room in this case is well ventilated, the dampness in it does not stagnate.

Before carrying out the thermal insulation of the roof withthe inside should check the condition of the rafters - whether there is dampness, rot. When detecting rotten beams, they should be replaced, and the wood elements should be treated with fire and antiseptic agents.

The so-called "roofing cake" from the roofingmaterial inside the attic should be made as follows: hydro-barrier, insulation, vapor barrier. There should be air layers between the roof and waterproofing, between the waterproofing and the insulation - this will help to remove the moisture that forms. It is necessary to install the air conditioning: one must be in the overhang of the roof, the other at the top, under the ridge.

As insulation material choosemineral wool, glass wool in rolls or plates is also popular. Preferably, the materials released in the form of plates - they are able to keep the shape well and will not ask for it in the future. Also used are foam plates.

Waterproofing material is better to useroll - it can be roofing paper, a film whose task is to prevent the penetration of water to the heater. For steam insulation, you can use parchment, polyethylene, ruberoid or foil materials, which should be turned foil inside the attic space. The best option is a vapor barrier membrane that does not let moisture and steam escape to the heater, but will drain condensate out.

Tip 3: How to insulate the ceiling with expanded clay

Expanded clay is a traditional material thathas long been used in construction for insulation of various premises. Some consider this material obsolete, but claydite still has undeniable advantages, which make it one of the best materials for a private home, where it is necessary to perform the thermal insulation of the ceiling.

How to insulate the ceiling with expanded clay

What are the advantages of claydite?

Ceramsite has the following advantages:- Absence of toxic fumes and harmful impregnations - Ecological safety - Water resistance - Fire resistance - Resistance to low and high temperatures - Low weight - Low cost and availability - Mineral granules of this material make it possible to create a layer of almost any thickness, including number on an uneven surface.

Types of expanded clay

There are two types of expanded clay: claydite gravel, - expanded clay sand. The first of these is grain size from 5 to 40 mm. Used in the insulation of floors, walls, ceilings. In addition, it is used in the production of concrete. Expanded clay sand is a filler for mortars and concrete, it has grain sizes from 0.14 to 5 mm. Used for heat-insulating backfill.

How to properly insulate the ceiling with claydite?

The very first stage of thermal insulation is the same asat any other material-heater. First you need to protect the ceiling from condensation due to warm air rising up. To do this, you can use ordinary aluminum foil, foil-insulated or foil for vapor barrier. Do not apply claydite on the vapor barrier material directly. First, the material is to be fixed, then it is necessary to lay a vapor barrier with one layer of soft clay. Clay itself is an excellent noise isolator and heat insulator, and therefore it must be the very first layer of insulation. In turn, expanded clay performs the function of an intermediate layer. The clay must be leveled, and then the claydite should be covered in such a way that it covers the surface of the ceiling with an equal layer from the attic side. The thickness of the layer of expanded clay itself should be 15 cm on average. With this thickness, the load on the ceilings will become relatively small. In some cases, the process of installing thermal insulation on this completes, and an even layer of expanded clay remains in the attic floor. However, if you wish that in the future it would be possible to use the attic for its intended purpose, it is possible to fill the cement with a cement-sand screed. It will not only improve the thermal insulation of the ceiling, but it will also be a reliable basis for loft space.

How can I check the quality of the ceiling insulation with expanded clay?

If the self-insulation is done poorly, the lossHeat from the room through the ceiling can be significant. For testing, it is necessary to warm this room, measure the temperature of the air, and then for a few hours to seal the room hermetically. If the temperature inside the room drops rapidly to the temperature of the neighboring rooms, this means that there is a heat leak that needs to be identified and eliminated. Proper thermal insulation of the ceiling with expanded clay, which is made in view of the above recommendations, will help keep heat in your home for a long time.
