How to transplant an orchid at home
Orchids need a transplant every two years, because over time, the substrate loses all its nutritional properties and the orchid "starves." This is indicated by the following signs: the leaves become pale, fade, the growth of new bulbs stops. If you notice one of these signs from your flower, this is a signal to action.
You will need
- Transparent plastic pot with a perforated bottom
- Substrate for orchids
- Activated carbon
- Drainage for flowers
Instructions
1
Transfer the beginning of the work place the pot of orchidsinto the water for a while, so that the substrate in which the flower is located is wet and separated from the pot walls with ease. It is desirable to grow orchids in plastic pots - first, it is easier to remove the flower by squeezing the pot walls, and secondly, in the glass and clay pots, the roots of the flower can be cold if they stand, for example, on the window. If the roots of the orchid grow to the walls of the pot, you must carefully separate them with a wooden stick. Then rinse the roots of the orchid with warm water so that the substrate adhering to them goes away without damaging the flower.
2
If you find rotten areas on the roots, they must be cut to a healthy root. The place of the cut must be sprinkled with crushed activated carbon. Further it is necessary to pour a small layer into the prepared pot with perforated bottom. We lower the orchid on the drainage layer and carefully cover the substrate. Periodically, it is necessary to shake the pot or tap on its walls to evenly distribute the substrate between the roots. Orchids need a special substrate, which can be bought at any flower shop. No need to compact the substrate tightly, air and light and water should penetrate well enough to the roots of the orchid. If a part of the roots does not fit in the pot, there's nothing to worry about that they stay on the surface.
3
Do not water the orchid immediately aftershe was transplanted, because we have already sufficiently moistened the roots, washing them. After transplantation, the pot with the orchid should be placed in a shaded place with high humidity. The first time you can water the orchid in two to three weeks, moving it to the place where it will stand permanently.
