Many people want to make the interior of their homeoriginal and unusual, so that it is different from the banal environment of average apartments. After all, it's nice to see around yourself handmade carpets, expensive curtains, elegant antique furniture. However, this situation is far from being affordable for everyone - old pieces of furniture are very expensive. However, there is a way out: you can artificially grow old furniture yourself.

Aged furniture: do it yourself

Stage 1: preparation for aging furniture

Remove from the furniture you want to age, handlesand other accessories. In case the furniture is polished, remove the polishing with a special compound purchased at the hardware store. At the same time, observe all safety rules and follow the instructions on the packaging. If you have painted furniture, the old paint can be treated with sandpaper before smoothness. If the product has not been painted, you need to remove the upper layer of grease and dirt that are on the surface of the furniture with the help of fine sandpaper. Do not forget to use a respirator to protect against airborne dust, and also to ventilate the room well. All the dust is well dusted from the corners, then wipe the furniture with a damp cloth and allow it to dry. Too greasy the surface of the tree should be washed with a soap solution, and then let it dry. You will not need putty on furniture. Since you need to create an effect of aging, some deterioration of furniture, defects in the surface of the tree are worth emphasizing, and not hide with putty. For painting old furniture you can use special chalk paints for home creation (Annie Sloan, Autentico, etc.). Such paints for the effect of aged furniture are made in a wide range of fuzzy shades, as if burnt over time. Cretaceous paints can be applied on various surfaces (including plastic and clay), with no pre-treatment of the surface at all. If you do not have this paint, use a conventional matte water-based wall and ceiling for living spaces (but not for the kitchen and bathroom ). You can buy it at any hardware store. When applying this paint, it is desirable first primed the surface of the tree with a water-soluble primer. Universal Primer 2 in 1 prevents the seepage from the wood of natural oils on the surface of the paint and promotes good adhesion of the latter to the surface of furniture. For painting furniture under the antiquity it is desirable to use not a brush, but a paint roller. Before work, protect the surrounding area with a plastic film. Even better - work on the street.

Stage 2: basic painting of antique furniture

Start painting the furniture in the old days withthe back side. Then you can clearly see the result and decide how much paint to put on the roller or even change the hue of the paint. Then move to the front of the furniture, applying a wide brush strokes of paint, without leaving a streak. Before applying the next coat of paint (if necessary), make sure that the product is not streaked. If they are, fix this problem with sandpaper, then walk an additional layer of paint around this place. Between applying layers of paint, hold the roller in water to avoid drying out the paint. Apply the second layer strictly after the first has completely dried. As for the drying time of the paint, it depends on the environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) and can vary from 1 to 5 hours.

Stage 3. Effects of aging furniture

How many layers of paint do you need?It depends on what style you choose. For a simple effect of dilapidation, roughness, or that a picture of the tree is visible through the paint, one layer will suffice. For a more smooth type of furniture, you need to go through a small nazhdachkoy on the first layer of paint and remove the brush with dust, then apply a second coat of paint. Creation of the effect of shabby, wiping. After applying the paint, wipe the paint in the places where it is worn (near the handles, on the finned surfaces and corners) with fine emery. Continue to do this until you reach the required degree of aging: to the "bare" tree, to the primer, etc. Then easily go through the nesting on the entire surface of the furniture. In order to create an effect of penetration of the old paint, after applying two layers, apply in a suitable place with a dry brush with light touches a different color paint. It is better to use contrasting colors. The following technique is called a "dry brush". Draw a little paint on a dry brush, wipe the last with a dry cloth and apply a thin layer of paint to the previously painted surface. This technique can also be used to create the effect of an old paint that has eaten into the texture of a tree. The effect of coarsely applied many layers of paint. Apply it in several layers in different directions with careless strokes. There is no need to use sandpaper between layers. Apply a clear wax for protection to the last coat of paint and over it a dark wax to create an aging effect. All the above effects, like many others, can be applied separately or together. Create and experiment! However, try not to get carried away with the effects excessively, because everything done "too" and deliberately easily turns into thrash.
