How to calculate fuel consumption per 100 km

Each driver, under the influence of all the rising prices for gasoline, probably faced with the issue of calculating fuel consumption. Especially if he is going on a long journey and has a limited budget.

How to calculate fuel consumption per 100 km

How is fuel consumption calculated?

There are a lot of ways to account for consumption. There are special GPS sensors with their level gauge, which is installed in the gas tank. Thus, the computer of the GPS unit keeps a record of fuel consumption and distance traveled, and then receives a flow.
Sensors with a level gauge are established by the companies of a cargo transportation, and they cost not cheaply.
The other way is simpler and more reliable. If the car does not have a GPS system, as described above, or an on-board computer is not installed, then the first thing to do is go to the gas station and fill a full tank. Then set the mileage counter (if any) to 0 or record the current total mileage of the car. Well, and accordingly, now you need to wait for the moment when the gasoline in the tank runs out, and by mileage you can calculate the expense. True, the measurements will not be very accurate, because they will be affected by many other factors, such as traffic jams, stops at traffic lights or, if measured in winter, then warming up the car. But you can increase the accuracy of this method, if you pour a smaller amount into the tank, for example, 15 -20 liters, and at the same time take a can of gasoline in order to top up and then leave for the track. But before all this, also record the mileage and the amount of gasoline. This calculation will be more accurate, because the interference for movement on the track is less and because the number of gear changes will be smaller, correspondingly less than the engine speed jumps. By the way, it is worth noting that on-board computers do not always show the correct flow, especially for those that are not provided in the car in the factory and which have been installed manually.
Even if there is an on-board computer in the car, it is worthwhile to check it by any proposed method and check the received calculations and computer calculations.
The last way is "grandfather's". The principle of calculation is almost the same. It is necessary to fill a tank with some gasoline, then drive 10 kilometers along a road of several types, for example, a city, a rugged terrain, a route. And then measure how much fuel was spent.

Fuel consumption depending on the car brand

Well, in general, usually the consumption of a certaincar is indicated by its manufacturer, and on the Internet you can find the consumption of any model and type of engine. For example, the consumption of all the known nine, namely VAZ-21093 with 8 valve injection engine and a working volume of 1.5 liters along the route for 100 km from 5.3 to 7 liters, and in the city from 8 to 12.5 liters.
