Child car seats: selection criteria

For the youngest

Car seat group 0 is suitable for children frombirth and weight up to 10 kg. This, in fact, a car seat, which is installed in the car against the course of traffic on the back or front seat. If the seat is placed in the front seat, you must disable the front airbag. The child is fixed in the car seat with 3 or 5-point belts. The car seat itself is attached using standard belts or using the Isofix system (depending on the model of the car seat and the equipment of the car).

The 0+ armchair is suitable for children from birth andup to 13 kg. From group 0, these armchairs are distinguished by their large size and weight, sometimes they have a varying position of the back. In such an armchair the child can ride up to a year and a half.

Middle link

The car seat group 1 is suitable for children weighing from 8up to 18 kg or from 9 months to 4 years. The seat of group 1 is installed on the rear seat in the direction of the car. The child in the armchair is fastened with 5-point seat belts. The chairs of this group can have different modifications.

The main difference is the possibility of changingtilt the backrest in several positions, adjust the height of the head restraint. Some car seats have a belt tension indicator, a sound signal when the child is incorrectly fastened, an additional lock of the chair with an emphasis on the floor. There are car seats with reinforced side protection, which keeps the child's head in sharp turns.

Completely adult

Group 2/3 has slight differences. This group of car seats is designed to carry children weighing 15 to 36 kg between the ages of 4 and 12. In the car seats of these groups the child is fastened with the help of regular car belts. The seat is installed in the direction of the car in the rear seat. The difference between groups 2 and 3 is often the size of the chair itself. Armchairs of the third group are wider and higher. And the other differences depend on the imagination of the manufacturers. There are car seats with built-in audio system, which allows the child to listen to music and watch a regular TV, without interfering with other passengers.

If the child is large and in a standard chairGroup 3 is tight, you can put it on the booster. The booster is a seat that allows the child to sit higher and fasten with seat belts. If the belts because of the low growth of the child pass under his throat, use a special adapter that pulls the strap down and fixes it in a safe position.
