Tip 1: In what Google accuses Microsoft and Nokia
On May 31, 2012, Google filed a complaint withEuropean Antimonopoly Committee, in which it accused Microsoft and Nokia of intentions to engage in "patent trolling." According to analysts, the alliance, which manufactures Lumia smartphones, has decided to conduct unfair competition with gadget manufacturers on Android OS in order to increase sales of its products.
About the history of the issue In 2011, Nokia and Microsoftunited for the release of Lumia smartphones based on Windows Phone. Thus, Nokia planned to correct its obviously shaky position in the mobile device market and entered into a heavy competition with gadgets based on the much more popular operating systems IOS and Android. Soon after the release of the first line of Lumia, the newly formed alliance unexpectedly entered into a deal with the Canadian company Mosaid Technologies, as a result of which Mosaid transferred the rights to two thousand patents and patent applications, previously owned by Nokia and Microsoft. The Canadian company does not produce any gadgets and is not going to produce it yet - this caused suspicions of Google.Inc analysts. They suggested that Mosaid is a "troll" who, in agreement with Nokia and Microsoft, intends to declare a "patent war" for the Android OS, and hence its owner, for Google. About "patent trolling" "Patent trolling" is not uncommon in the world business. For clarity, we can cite the Russian example of the late 90's, when enterprising residents of the suburbs patented an "invention" called "Glass vessel", which turned out to be an ordinary bottle. Possessing a patent, cunning "inventors" tried to sue some of the profits from manufacturers of all sorts of drinks poured into glass containers. But in Russia this phenomenon is very rare. But in the US, this business is booming. Especially in the field of telecommunications and Hi-Tech, where in the production of the final product, not one dozen or even hundreds of patents are used at once, and so the weak points and legal loopholes for presenting lawsuits can not be found at all. After all, even technologies that are honestly developed by different people independently of each other often lead to similar results. For example, who do you think invented the radio? Popov or Marconi? The development of the conflict It should be noted that neither Mosaid Technologies, nor especially Nokia or Microsoft, took any action against Google as the manufacturer of Android-devices. The complaint to the European Antimonopoly Committee was an attempt to guard against possible troubles. In Mosaid's property, Google analysts estimate there are about 1200 key technologies in the mobile industry, for which it is possible to bring legal claims. The result of the alleged "patent trolling", according to representatives of Google, could be the increase in prices for mobile devices, as well as the introduction of restrictions on the sale of gadgets from the Android OS, which would force consumers to buy smartphones with Windows OS. However, Google did not consider that itself actually is a monopolist. Representatives of Microsoft did not apply to notice that Google.Inc controls more than 90% of Internet search and advertising and in turn filed a complaint with the antitrust authority of the European Union. Now, if Google does not take appropriate measures to resolve the conflict, sanctions can be applied to it - a fine. Or, in general, they will limit the use of Göogle services in Europe. However, this is another story.
Tip 2: When the Droid RAZR comes out
The smartphone market is a fierce struggleleading manufacturers. Following the presentation in early September, new models by Samsung and Nokia about their new developments told the world and Motorola.
Motorola, one of the world's largestelectronics manufacturers, some time ago was acquired by Google. Having received such a strong support in the person of the parent company, it is now trying to compete in the smartphone market not only with Nokia and Samsung, but also with a "heavyweight" like Apple. According to the plans of the management of Motorola, three new smartphones of the Droid Razr line will help to take their market share. The release of just three versions of smartphones - Droid Razr HD, Maxx HD and M is designed to cover as wide a range of users. It's easy to guess that new gadgets will work on Google's Android operating system. The technical characteristics of the new smartphones a year ago could be called outstanding, but after the presentations of Motorola's competitors, they no longer look impressive, but simply correspond to the time. Gadgets have already become a regular dual-core processor, a large 4.7-inch screen with HD resolution. Smartphone Droid Razr HD has a battery capacity of 2500 mAh, two cameras, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory. The Google Chrome browser is preinstalled, the 4G LTE network is supported. Droid RAZR Maxx HD is distinguished by a battery, its capacity is increased to 3300 mAh. The third model - the Droid RAZR M - received a reduced screen size of 3.7 inches and a battery of 2000 mAh. Thus, the consumer will receive three versions of the smartphone, from compact to full-size, with a variation in the last capacity of the battery. It can be stated that Motorola has released a very modern line of smartphones with very good characteristics. The price of the two older gadget models is not yet reported, the younger one - the Droid RAZR M - will be sold in the US at $ 100, subject to signing when buying a two-year contract. About the time of the release of smartphones has not yet been reported, but there is information that the new gadgets will be on sale by Christmas.
