Wav is one of the containers for recording the audio stream. As a rule, uncompressed audio is recorded in wav, which is why the size file is quite large. For decreasing the sizebut you can convert the sound into a format with a higher compression ratio or, leaving the sound in the container wav, compress it with a codec.

You can transcode the sound of wav usingeditor Adobe Audition, which when saving a file allows you to select the codec and compression parameters. Open the file in the audio editor and see the information about the sound. The window with the file parameters can be opened with the File Info option from the File menu.

Open the Save As settings window with the Save As option from the File menu. If you do not need to leave a sound in the source container, select mp3 from the "File type" drop-down list.

By clicking on the Options button, select from whichbitrate and sampling rate will save your sound. The smaller the selected parameters, the smaller the final file will be. The sound quality in it, however, will also be lower than the source code.

If you are trying to compress the wav PCM file by getting the same wav PCM output, to reduce the sizeand select the sampling rate less,than for the original sound. To do this, in the "File type" list, select ACM Waveform, open the settings with the Options button and select PCM from the Filter list. Select audio parameters from the Attributes list.

The sound in the wav container can be compressed with the AC-3 codec,reducing the bitrate. To use this codec, select ACM Waveform as the file type, click Options and select the AC-3 ACM Codec filter. Select the bitrate and sampling rate in the Attributes list and click on the OK button.

After setting the parameters for saving audio, specify the location on the disk in the upper "Folder" field where the recoded file will be written and click on the Save button.

A similar operation can be done with the help ofprogram Total Audio Converter. True, this program allows you to select only the container and compression parameters, not the codec. To work with this converter, select the folder in the left window where the file is located. The contents of this folder will appear in the main window of the converter. Selecting one of the files, you can see its parameters in the Info field.

In the panel under the main menu, select thetranscoding and specify parameters of the saved sound in the appeared window. After exiting the next option, click Next. Pressing this button after selecting the number of channels in the sound, you start the process of saving the file.
