How to create a new local disk


Use of several local Disks allows to increase the system performance and to logically distribute the information on the hard disk. The most common way to create a new volume is to use special utilities.

If there is an unallocated area on the hard drive of the computer, use the Windows 7 system tools to create a new local disk. Turn on the PC and open the control panel.

Select the "System and Security" menu. Scroll to "Administration". Find the shortcut "Computer Management" and double click on it with the left mouse button. Open the "Disk Management" item located in the "Storage" menu.

Right-click on an unoccupied areahard drive. Select the "Create volume" item. Select the size of the new local disk and its file system. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

If you need to create a new local disk using the free space of an existing partition, use Acronis Disk Director. Install it and restart the PC.

Start Disk Director and select the manual mode of the program. Select the local disk that will be divided into elements. Click the Split button.

In the next menu, specify the folders that will beautomatically moved to a new partition. If you want to create an empty volume, you can skip this step. Click the Next button and set the size of the new local disk. After preparing the section, click the Ok button.

Now find the button on the toolbar"Run" and press it. Confirm the process of creating a new local disk. To continue the operation of Disk Director, you will need to start the DOS-mode. Wait until the desired window appears and click the "Restart Now" button.

The process of creating a new local disk may take more than an hour. After it completes, the Windows operating system boots. Make sure that the new partition is displayed in the volume list.
