Many know the game "Tetris", coined in1984 by the Soviet programmer Alexei Pajitnov. This June she turned 30 years old. But for many it remains a mystery, where the very word "Tetris" came from.

The original idea of the game "Tetris" comes from anotherpuzzles are pentamino. The essence of it was the need to fold a rectangle of all the figures, which in pentamino was 12. In each of them there were 5 squares (penta - five) and they were denoted by letters of the Latin alphabet, to which they were similar.

To simplify the idea, Alexei took foura square on each figure. Hence the beginning of the word "Tetris" - tetramino (tetra - four). The very same idea remained the same - the most tightly packed rectangular glass.

But the secret of the second half of the word "tetris" is revealed by Vadim Gerasimov, who was the co-developer of the game. He claims that the ending is taken from the word "tennis".
