And this holiday began with women's lamentation - in every house the village women shed tears over their miserable fate, lamented the dead or ungodly loved ones, ungrateful husbands or a hard life. Today this holiday is remembered for the great sacrifice of the Holy Martyrs. People congratulate their loved ones with the faith, hope and love that exist on earth, as well as those women who were named after these Holy Martyrs. Orthodox believers go to church on September 30, where a moleben is held in the early morning in honor of the Holy Martyrs of Faith, Hope , Lubov and their mother Sophia, and put candles in memory of them. More precisely, the girls were called Pistis, Elpis and Agape, but later in Russia these intractable Greek names were translated into Russian and took root in this form. It was not easy to be Christians at that time - the Roman emperor Adrian was unconcerned about the new faith. Learning of this Christian family, Adrian ordered a woman with children to be brought to him and demanded that they renounce their faith and sacrifice the pagan goddess Artemis. Sofia and her daughter - 12-year-old Vera, 10-year-old Nadezhda and 9-year-old Love - did not obey the requirements. The girls were tortured in front of their mother, then they executed and gave Sophia torn bodies. The unfortunate woman buried her daughters and soon died on their grave.

Other Saints

Until recently, Nadezhda Rimskaya wasThe only saint with this name, but in the early 21st century. Three more Hopes were canonized. All of them took martyrdom for their faith in the epoch of Stalinist repressions. On March 4, the commemoration day of St. Nadezhda Abbakumova (1880-1938). She lived in the village of Martynovskoe (Moscow region) and since 1928 was a church elder. March 2, 1938. Hope was arrested on charges of anti-Soviet propaganda, and on March 14 it was shot. No less sad was the fate of Nadezhda Kruglova (1887-1938). Since 1907, she was a novice in the Trinity Monastery, located in the Ryazan province. In 1919 the monastery was closed, and Nadezhda became a servant in the church, but then closed it. The woman worked in the factory, but maintained contact with the former abbess and other nuns. This was the reason for the accusation of anti-Soviet agitation, and in March 1928, Nadezhda was shot. The day of remembrance of this saint - March 20. Hope Azhgerevich (1877-1937) also was preparing to become a nun, but did not have time - the new government closed the monasteries. In Moscow, where she came from the Minsk province, she did not have her own dwelling, and she lived then one, then another nun from a closed monastery. In October 1937, a woman was arrested. The charge was stereotyped for that time: "anti-Soviet agitation and participation in the counter-revolutionary grouping." Soon there was a death sentence and execution. The feast day of this holy martyr is celebrated on October 21.
