Features of national Tatar costume

It is difficult to define a single type of Tatarnational costume, because there are many subgroups of Tatars. The formation of the national image in clothing was influenced by the Oriental peoples, Islam, features of the national costume of the Volga Tatars. Like the traditional costumes of all other nations, Tatar national clothes have passed a long and difficult path of historical development. In the national costume of the Tatars are presented in a harmonious combination of fabrics of bright "oriental" colors, headdresses with uneasy ornament, shoes of different types and purposes, elegant and complex jewelry. Due to all these elements, a special character of the national Tatar clothing is being formed.

The basis of the traditional costume of the Tatarstrousers (chestnut) and shirt-dress (kulmek). Over the shirts, traditionally they wore a caftan or a robe. And the very word "robe" has Arab roots and is very much in tune with such an element of Arab clothing - the hilgate. Tatars were also often worn on the hood. It was a light outer garment without a lining, reaching a length just below the knee. Usually it was sewn from linen or hemp fabrics. Usually the upper swinging clothes of Tatars did not have fasteners, so the undoubted attribute of the national costume is the belt. He could equally be sewn from a fabric or knitted from a wool. Another distinguishing feature of Tatar clothing was its trapezoid shape. And also the big size and surprising brightness of fabrics. It was typical for Tatars to wear a large number of jewelry, which only added brightness to the image.

Women's traditional clothes

Tatar women's clothing was more diverse,rather than masculine. It differed not only in seasonal periods, but also in purpose (everyday, festive), and even according to age. It was in women's traditional clothes that the territorial features of a particular sub-group of the Tatars were vividly visible. The basis of the women's traditional costume was a shirt, trousers and a lower breastplate. Camisoles and biscuits were also often used. Camisole called short sleeveless clothes, most often fitted, in contrast to the male version of the jacket. A bischmet - a caftan with long sleeves and a fitted back. He was often sewn from velvet and trimmed with fur. It was fastened with a large silver fastener, which also performed an aesthetic function.
