Everyone knows the well-known T-34 tank,who passed the entire Great Patriotic War and made a huge contribution to the victory of our country over the invaders. However, the T-34 did not appear on an equal footing. His older brother and in fact the standard for imitation was the T-28 medium tank.
T-28 is practically the first tank builtRussian designers themselves, and not by copying English samples. In particular, almost all Russian tanks were copies of English equipment manufactured by Vickers.
The medium tank T-28 was launched into a massproduction in 1933. A total of 500 tanks were produced in this model, because of their relative complexity of production. In comparison with other models - this is a very small amount. For example, more than 11,000 copies of the light tank T-26 were produced. But by the end of the 30s the T-28 was one of the most modern tank models in the world and had sufficient armor and firepower to cope with complex combat missions.
In particular, this tank proved itself well in the Russo-Finnish war. The Finns had almost no tank units, but there were very fortified dots surrounded by stakes (stone blocks).
T-28 bite into the line of defense of the Finns,shooting dead holes, and sometimes driving on them from above. Tanks drove into the rear of the enemy dots and shot them from behind. However, because of the outdated equipment on which the T-28 was manufactured, the tanks were often broken, and this model did not turn out to be mass. The caliber of the 76 mm gun was similar to the caliber of guns mounted on the T-34, but the short barrel did not give a good initial velocity of the projectile, resulting in a lower punching ability.
The screened T-28 was not inferior to the T-34 in terms ofsecurity. But the Soviet government made the right choice in favor of a more modern T-34 tank, which absorbed all the positive qualities of its predecessor and became the most effective tank of the Second World War.
