All about flute

Instructions
1
Unlike many other wind instruments, the sounds of a flute are formed by dissecting the air streams about the edge, without using the tongue.
2
According to ancient mythology, the inventor of the first flute was Ardal - the son of Hephaestus. Initially, the flute was in the form of a whistle, which later began to make holes for the fingers.
3
The flute is the main wind instrument in the countries of the Middle East. In Egypt, the flute was mastered 5 thousand years ago.
4
Originally there were only twovarieties of flute - longitudinal and transverse. The longitudinal has up to 6 finger holes. This tool is capable of octave blowing, providing a full scale. The intervals inside such a scale can change and form frets, by changing the force of breathing and crossing the fingers on the holes.
5
The transverse flute, also having 5-6 holesfor fingers, was perfected by masters from France in the late 17th century. They have added valves that allow you to perform a full chromatic scale. Thanks to the updated design and improved sound, the transverse flute soon took a place of honor in the wind symphony orchestras.
6
A number of improvements in the design of the fluteintroduced in the year 1832-1847 Theobald Boehm. He added to the design of the ring and valve system, with which the musician could cover all the holes on the instrument. Böhm first proposed the production of flutes entirely of metal. This allowed to improve the sound of the instrument and increase its volume.
7
In the XIX century flutes were often made of silver, although there were also unique specimens made of ivory or glass, which were not so much musical instruments as works of art.
8
The modern orchestral flute has a wide enough range of sounding - three octaves. The scale of such an instrument is read from a note of a small octave.
9
In addition to the traditional large (soprano) flute, which is mainly used for solo and orchestral performances, there are several other varieties of this wind instrument that differ not only in size but also in pitch. The small flute (piccolo) sounds an octave above the soprano. The sound of an alto flute is a quart below the sound of a large flute. There is also a bass flute, the sound of which is a whole octave below the soprano.
