How to get rid of a ferret in a hen house

The ferret is a natural hunter, driven by hiswild instincts, therefore, along with rats and mice, poultry can become its victims. It is not so easy to dodge a ferret from a chicken coop, as it seems, as this predator is incredibly cunning, cute and careful.

Ferret
Farmers with experience say that if the ferretclimbed once in the chicken coop, he would not rest until he destroyed all the feathered, "cackling" herd. Probably, the farmers are right, because for this predator the chickens are really extremely easy, besides, very nutritious prey. And especially fear ferret attacks should be in the cold season - when another prey for the animal is not so much. However, there are still ways by which you can get rid of the annoying "killer", besides they are very humane. In the end, why shoot at such a beautiful animal, if you can give him a chance to leave the food for good?

Strengthening the chicken coop, building a trap

In order to save the predator from the possibilityget close to the "chicken tribe", you should take care of strengthening the chicken coop. Given that the ferret can easily dig a tunnel even under the most solid wall (the animal does not need to make a digging depth of 20-30 centimeters), you need to take care of the construction of an additional barrier. Such an obstacle may be, for example, another mesh wall (if the chicken coop is made from a grid), the lower edge of which must be deepened into the earth by 50-60 centimeters and securely cemented. The ferret can penetrate into the chicken house and through the ceiling, so this nuance must also be taken into account. In order to catch the insidious predator, you can build a trap. It's pretty simple to do - just take a bucket or a large box, put it under it, attaching a piece of meat to it. The ferret pulls at the bait and the trap slams shut. At first glance, this method of catching a predator is very simple and effective, but you have to have a very smart and clever animal, and in order to prevent it from making an escape, you need to react instantly. Trap should be taken far beyond the economy and release the animal to freedom.

If the focus with the trap did not pass

There is also a less humane way of catchingpredator and we are talking about a trap. In order to cause the animal as little harm as possible (if other methods were not effective), you need to use the hunting trap number 1. Before installing the trap, it should be boiled in spruce needles - this is done in order to drown out the human smell, which can scare away the animal. If using a trap seems too cruel, you can try to scare a predator by smearing the walls of the henhouse with tar. This is an old "grandfather's" method, which, however, is not always effective. A special device - a torch-repeller can be a good alternative to all the above methods of getting rid of a ferret. This device is installed at night near the henhouse and, thanks to the built-in motion sensor, emits light and sound repelling signals.
