How much energy does the microwave

The microwave oven is a household appliance, which today has many housewives. However, not all of them are well aware of how energy-intensive is a conventional kitchen microwave oven.

Microwave power

The kitchen of modern man is staffeda large number of household electrical appliances, which differ not only in purpose but also in the volume of energy consumption. So, the most wasteful in this respect are heating appliances - an iron, an electric kettle, a hair dryer and an oven, including a microwave oven. A microwave oven, commonly called a microwave oven, is a convenient device that allows you to reheat and cook food in a matter of minutes. In this case, the specific number of these minutes directly depends on the capacity of the device. The same indicator is also decisive for the amount of electricity consumed by the microwave. Most modern devices used at home have a capacity ranging from 0.7 to 1.2 kilowatts per hour (kWh). The presence in the particular device of additional options, for example, convection, grill or others, usually increases the amount of energy consumed by it per unit time: in this case, the microwave power can be from 1.2 to 2 kWh. In this case, the maximum rated power indicated by the manufacturer corresponds to the operation at the extreme position of the power regulator: accordingly, the choice of a more economical mode will ensure less energy consumption per unit of time.

Total energy consumption

Thus, the total amount of electricity, consumed by a particular device for a certain period of time, for example, a month, depends on its nominal power, usage mode and the amount of time it was used. So, you can calculate the energy consumption of a microwave oven by a simple example. Let a particular device have a maximum power equal to 1 kWh, but the owners use it primarily in a more economical mode, which "eats" 0.85 kWh of electricity. If the microwave is used mainly for heating food, a day it takes about 40 minutes. With daily use, the total operating time per month is 1200 minutes, that is 20 hours. Consequently, the total amount of energy consumed per month by this microwave energy is 17 kW. Similarly, having the necessary minimum of information, it is possible to calculate the amount of energy consumed for any other similar device.
