How to send a fax if there is no fax machine
Absence of facsimile apparatus is not an obstacle to sendingmessages on this communication channel. If you have a normal personal computer, you will need only a small prefix - fax modem - to exchange fax messages.

Get an analog modem that has a functionwork with facsimile messages. Note that the ADSL modem, which you probably already have, will not work for this purpose. In order to purchase a fax modem it is necessary to contact not in computer stores (there are no such modems, since they are removed from production), but to markets, online auctions, etc.

When choosing such a modem, be guided by twocriteria. First, the encoding of the received and transmitted data in it must be done not programmatically, but in hardware. Secondly, be sure that the emulation function facsimile apparatus there really is. The internal modem with the ISA interface is purchased only if the motherboard of your machine is equipped with the appropriate slot.

Connect the modem correctly to the telephone line. No splitter is required for this, the device must be connected parallel to the line. If you already have an ADSL modem, and hence a splitter, connect an analog modem in parallel to any of the telephones. During the connection, hold the handset on one of the parallel telephones removed so as not to get an electric shock with an accidental incoming call.

Connect the modem to the computer, or if it isinternal, install it in the motherboard slot. The machine must be switched off before this. Connect the power supply to the external modem. On the computer, install the software necessary to receive and send faxes. Programs of appropriate purpose exist for Linux, Windows and even DOS. For example: HylaFax, Scan and Fax, Ecofax.

The next steps for sending a fax depend on theof which program is used. Some of them require preliminary transformation of the document into a graphic format, for example, TIFF. After launching the program, enter the phone number and select the file you want to transfer. Then press the button that starts the transfer, or, depending on the program, select the corresponding item in its menu. Remember that most of these programs allow not only to receive, but also transmit faxes.
