How to grow white currant

White currant is drought-resistantplant, so it does not require frequent irrigation, it has a fairly strong root system. This shrub prefers to grow in the light, does not tolerate shadows. Therefore, it is necessary to plant the currant in an open area, but not under the trees, so as not to obscure the bush. A powerful root system will feel better on fertilized and cultivated soils. Loamy, clayey, sandy loam and sandy soils are equally good for shrubs. The culture practically does not tolerate wetting, so on a site with a high standing of groundwater or periodically exposed to drowning, plant white currant on loose hills. The best time to plant a currant is the end of September and the beginning of October. When planting bushes, observe the distance between the plants in a meter and a half. Dig in the planting pits with a width of 60x60 cm, the depth should be about 40 cm. Mix the top fertile soil with 10 kg of humus, 1 glass of wood ash and the same amount of superphosphate. Put the prepared mixture on the bottom of the excavated pit and for 10 cm fill the fertile soil without adding fertilizers, so as not to burn the roots of the seedling. Place the seedling at an angle of 45 degrees, straighten the roots. Fill the pit with the remains of the soil, compact it, but not with your feet. Thoroughly pour the shrubbery and mulch the whiplash circle. In conclusion, it is necessary to cut off all the leaves of the seedling and trim the shoots, leave only five kidneys above the ground. The bush is formed within five years. A properly formed currant bush should have four equally spaced and strong basal shoots from each year of growth. Fertilize the white currant organic, bring in early spring nitrogen fertilizer - bird droppings with water in a ratio of 1:20 or mullein 1:10. The second feeding should be done during the flowering of the bush. After picking berries, fertilize the bush with phosphorus-potassium compounds. Since currants are quite sensitive to chlorine, it is recommended to introduce wood ash or potassium sulfate.
