The first menstruation is quite plentiful, butshort-lived (2-7 days). Full regular ovulatory cycles are fully formed in a year and a half after menarche. The lack of regular ovulation in adolescent girls is often associated with hormonal changes in the body and unfinished sexual and physical development. The most frequent cause of instability of the cycle is the insufficient amount of progesterone responsible for the timely rejection of the uterine mucosa. The average menstrual cycle inadolescents lasts more than 40 days (for comparison, the cycle of a sexually mature woman is 21-35 days). In the first few years after the onset of menarche, menstruation is lengthy and often anovulatory. Every year, the fluctuations in figures decrease, approaching 28-38 days, and by the age of 19-20 the regularity of the menstrual cycle is completely stabilized.
