Tip 1: What is a short track
Short track is a relatively young discipline of the Winter Olympic Games. This sport attracts fans with its entertainment and dynamism.
Short track is an Olympic sport, in whichathletes show their skills in speed skating on the "short track" (short track). The Russian national team has already won a whole set of Olympic medals in Sochi in this sport. The first Olympic official competition for the short track began to be held only in 1992, they immediately attracted a large number of fans with its dynamism and entertainment. The short track includes several types of disciplines . Currently, 8 sets of medals are being played at the Olympic Games (4 sets for women and men). The most spectacular are the 3 and 5 km relay races for women and men respectively. There are also three types of competitions in which athletes run to different distances (500, 1000 and 1500 meters). Unlike speed skating, in a short track time is not a decisive factor for victory. This is a contact race in which athletes compete with each other "for elimination". The main goal of the competition is to come to the finish line first. In each race 4 sportsmen start simultaneously, from which only two winners leave in the following circle. This race will continue until there are only 4 participants left, among which medals will be played. Interestingly, in the short track, skates are slightly higher than in the classical speed skating. This is done so that the skates tightly fix not only the foot, but also the ankle, so they are made individually for each athlete.
Tip 2: What kind of sport is a short track
After the winter Sochi Olympiad, many learned, who such Victor An, reasoned, why he suddenly accepted Russian citizenship, and were glad that he brought to Russia a huge number of gold medals. It remains only to deal with the short track - the sport in which he won these same victories.
Short track - this is one of the disciplines of skatingSport, representing the high-speed passage of a certain distance on special skates. The name of the discipline is determined by the fact that the competitions take place on a short track (short track).
From the history
Competitions in speed skating as suchpass at specialized stadiums, which represent a construction longer than a football field. In order to make the conditions for skating more democratic, at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century a new discipline appeared, a short track, which could be held on a regular hockey ground. "The parents" of this discipline are Americans and Canadians, who in 1915 was organized the first international tournament in this sport. The first championships were held in countries in Canada and America in 1905, and competitions came to Europe in 1914, and they were held in England. The International Skating Union took the development of the short track under its control in 1967, later there was organized a special committee dealing with questions of this sport. At the Olympics in Calgary in 1988, the short track was an indicative sport, and since 1992 it has become an integral part of the Winter Olympic Games.rules
Races in the short track are held on the track insidean ordinary hockey box. The length of the oval ice track is 111.12 m. The turns are determined in such a way that the inner radius is 8 m. In the short track, the athletes always move counter-clockwise. Individual races for men and women are held at 500, 1000 and 1500 m, the relay distance for women is 3000 m, and for men - 5000 m. For the short track there are fairly strict rules, because at a small distance in a small space there is a very close fight . During the competition it is forbidden to interfere with the passing of the distance by the opponent, cut off the marked distance, throw the leg forward at the finish, trim the faster rivals, and also push the members of his team (exception - during the transfer of the relay race). Also there are rules for those who are overtaken by more than a circle . But in any case, the observance of all rules is followed by a judge who can impose a penalty, remove from the distance or postpone the run of the athlete to the final qualification, if, for example, he is shot down.Clothes and footwear
Clothing for the short track consists ofspecial tight suit of elastic material, which includes inserts for the protection of traumatic places, as well as a helmet, gloves and shields on the shins and knees. On the left glove there are special stickers on the tips of your fingers so that they can be leaned on the ice when necessary. On the neck a protective pad is always used. Skates for the short track are also invented special. The blade is rigidly connected to the shoe itself, and the blade is slightly shifted to the left of the center line of the shoe. This is done specifically so that when cornering you can almost not slow down and pass them, pressing against the ice.Tip 3: Russian triumph in the short track at Olimiada in Sochi
Russian athletes were able to take just two medals in the short track, it was a real triumph for the team.
February 15 was one of the most successful days forthe Russian national team at the Sochi Olympics. Victor An and Vladimir Grigoriev, who won the gold and silver medals in the short track, respectively, were particularly pleased. This sport proved to be the most successful for the Russian team, because it was in it that athletes already collected a full set of medals. In this great merit of Victor An, as he is already making the second medal in the treasury of the team. Victor and Vladimir in the final race fled the leaders, periodically replacing each other and did not miss the other rivals ahead of themselves, thereby providing the first two seats. It is interesting that the short track team that is in favor of Russia is international. After all, in the past, Victor An played for the Korean team and showed worthy results (three Olympic awards of the highest dignity). But later the athlete was seriously injured and had to recover, but he did not manage to return to his team, so he decided to try his hand at Russia. Valery Grigoriev, who won silver at the Iceberg ice skating rink "Iceberg", also earlier spoke for another country - Ukraine. However, the athlete wanted to improve his performance and began to train in Russia to achieve higher places in international competitions. The main coach of the team on the short track is Frenchman Sebastian Kros. Such an international tandem turned out to be quite successful.
