Up to what year the passport is valid

The validity period of the foreign passport is established by Federal Law No. 114-FZ of August 15, 1996 "On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entry into the Russian Federation".

Validity of the foreign passport

Period of time during which the foreignthe passport is valid, it is established by article 10 of the specified normative legal act. He, in turn, determines that these terms will be different for two different types of documents that are currently issued to citizens when applying for a foreign passport. So, the first of these is an ordinary passport, which is often referred to as an old passport. It contains only paper pages that contain basic information about its owner. The validity of such a passport, according to the law, is 5 years from the date of issue. Another type of document that a citizen of the Russian Federation today can receive is a foreign passport containing an electronic carrier of information. It is a plastic module that replaces the last page of the passport. Such a module contains the same information as a standard passport printed on it, as well as information about the owner, encrypted in a machine-readable form. This type of document is also called a new passport, and its validity is 10 years from the date of issue.

Checking the validity of your passport

To find out how long your overseas passport isStill will remain valid, regardless of its type, the document should be opened on the page with a photo. After that, pay attention to the bottom of the page. In both types of passports two dates will be next: the first is the date of issue of the document, the second is the date of the end of the period of its validity. Accordingly, depending on the type of document that you own, the difference between the date of issue and the expiry date for a new passport of a new sample will be 10 years, for an old passport - 5 years. Both dates are signed in Russian and English. So, the date you need is called in Russian "Expiration Date", in English - Date of expiry. This figure can be very important in planning foreign trips: for example, some countries require that your foreign passport remain valid for a certain period after the end of the trip. Such a requirement is made, for example, by India: employees of the consulate issuing a visa check that the document was valid for six months after the trip.
