The real names of Anne and Serge Golon are Simone Sangierand Vsevolod Golubinov. And the real author of Angelica is Simone alone, her husband only helped her to find historical material in the Versailles library. When Simone Shangje was just starting work on the 10th book of the series, Vsevolod Golubinov suddenly died of a stroke. Nevertheless, all the books of the series, created from 1956 to 1985, came out under double authorship. Initially, the appearance on the cover of the male name should have contributed to a more serious attitude to the novel in the readership, since at that time the writings of women writers were somewhat biased.

The first novels about Angelica

In total, the series included 13 novels. The first book, which acquainted readers with the beautiful and impudent daughter of an impoverished nobleman from Poitou, turned out to be so voluminous that it had to be divided into two books - "Angelica, Marquise of Angels" and "The Way to Versailles". In the first part, the story of the sudden flash of love of the young Angelica and the 30-year-old Geoffre de Peyrak, for whom the girl was married in order to save the family from poverty, is told about. Angelica is afraid of this lame man who is not distinguished by beauty, whose face is mutilated by a blow sabers. However, soon the young wife begins to understand how the Earl of Peyrak is smart, charming and beautiful soul. The family happiness of the de Peyrac couple is short-lived - too rich and independent Geoffrey causes anger and fears for the king himself. As a result, he is arrested on charges of witchcraft (the fact is that Peerak succeeded in practicing alchemy) and sentenced to burning at the stake. On the pages of the novel "The Way to Versailles" Angelica is left without a roof over her head and livelihoods to the bottom society, becoming a member of one of the Parisian gangs, led by her childhood friend Nicolas. Gradually, she manages to escape from the gang, find wealth and even return to the upper world, becoming the wife of her cousin - the handsome Philippe du Plessis-Belleur.

Continuation of the series

After the unprecedented success of the first books, the continuationfollowed one after another. In the novel "Angelica and the King" the proud beauty again remains a widow, but suddenly learns that her husband managed to avoid the terrible death at the stake. Henceforth, the main purpose of her life is the search for Geoffrey. Many misadventures await Angelica in the novels The Indomitable Angelica and Angelica in the Mutiny until she finally meets Peirak, forced to hide under the guise of the fearless and mysterious pirate Reskator ("Angelica and Her Love"). The action of the next six novels (Angelica in the New World, The Temptation of Angelica, Angelica and the Demon, Angelica in Quebec, The Road of Hope, Angelica and Her Victory) takes place on the North American continent, where Geoffrey and Angelique begin a new life and, in the end, regain their happiness and freedom. At the present time, the creator of Angelica Anne Golon is working on the final novel of the cycle "Angelica and the French Kingdom", and also carries out a grandiose work on the publication of a new, expanded and revised version in this series. It is planned that, together with the final part, the updated series will consist of 24 volumes.
