How to Cross-Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing is the common name of all skis, intended for running. They can be wooden or plastic, designed for a classic move, for a ridge move or combined. They differ in length and stiffness, in geometry and in the sliding surface.
Instructions
1
First, take the skis for hire. Rental services will allow you to try different models of cross-country skiing before going to the store to buy your own. Modern skis choose your weight: the harder you are, the harder and longer they should be. For beginners advise to choose skis, equal to their growth. On such it is easier to learn classical running and skating. Sticks should be on the shoulder. Boots - in size, without considering warm-up socks.
2
Go for a drive to the nearest park or stadium. However, skiing on ski bases brings much more pleasure. The ski track is laid on them in advance, the snow is rolled up by special machines. Hummocks and bushes do not interfere, sticks do not fall in the snow, the track is not littered.
3
To learn the classic kind of skiing, stand on the ski track so that the skis are parallel to each other. With sticks, push and start sliding, further pushing with one foot. Then continue to roll, alternately pushing legs. Do not forget about the sticks: simultaneously with the right ski carry forward the left stick, with the left - the right. At each step, transfer the weight of the body from one leg to the other, torso slightly tilt forward.
4
In order to start the movement with a ridge move, remember the foot movements when skating. Skis alternately put herringbone, drawing the letter V. Bounce off the snow on the inside of the ski, transferring the weight of the body to the sliding skis. Then repeat the same movement from the other leg. Learn to skate, start without sticks, gradually increasing the angle of the skis to the side. Having mastered the skill, connect the repulsion with sticks in a rhythm consistent with the work of the feet.
5
Having mastered both styles, determine for yourself which onethem closer to you. For the classic style, buy the classic skis designed for it, with a notch 20-25 cm longer than your height. For skating, get special "skate" skis: they are shorter than usual for 15-20 cm, have a forward-shifted center of gravity and higher rigidity. For fans of both styles of riding are sold universal cross-country skiing with averaged characteristics.
