Saturday (February 15, 2014) becamesignificant for Russian fans. On this day, the Russian team was able to rise at the end of the day immediately to third place after the seventh in the medal standings. This event was largely helped by the gold medal, received late in the evening in the men's skeleton. On the sledge-bobsled track "Sankey" for the Olympic medals three Russian sportsmen: Alexander Tretyakov, Sergey Chudinov and Nikita Tregubov were fighting at once. The main struggle for the first place was between the Latvian and the Russian. Already at the end of the first day of the competition, the representative of Russia won almost a second, setting a track record. The failure happened only during the third race, when Tretyakov made a small mistake and let forward the Latvian athlete Martins Dukurs. But according to the results of four races Alexander Tretyakov showed the best time - 3 minutes 44.29 seconds, thereby ensuring the gold podium of the Olympics. It should be noted that Alexander Tretyakov has already successfully competed for the Russian national team in Vancouver, where he successfully became a bronze medalist. After the Olympic victory, he became the first skeletonist, who at the same time is also the world champion. The remaining two Russian athletes entered the top six, finishing fifth and sixth, repeating the result of the women's skeleton team.
