The second Russian figure skater, Adeline Sotnikova, was able to cope with nerves and unerringly rolled back her short program, gaining 74.64 points . She only slightly lost to South Korean representative Kim Yu-Na (74.92 points). The preliminary third place is taken by the Italian, repeated world and European champion, Carolina Costner (74.12 points).
