The fortress occupies a vast territory of 70 hectares and has a perimeter of 12 kilometers. The fortress walls completely cover the territory of the old city with a huge cathedral.

If you move along the street of Octavian Gogi onnorth from the station to the intersection with Miha Khrabro Street, then turn left towards the citadel, then you will soon see the first gate of the castle, which is decorated with amazing compositions of sculptures on the theme of Greek mythology. To the left of the main gate of the fortress is a monument dedicated to the heroes of the uprising of 1784. The fortress of Alba-Julia is an excellent example of military architecture of the Middle Ages.

The seven powerful bastions are advanced farfortress predestination. At the same time, the builders of the fortress did not confine themselves to defense tasks; they immediately decided to bring in the appearance of the fortress as much beauty and expressiveness as possible with the help of special artistic elements. For example, the gate through which it was possible to get to the church, from the very first day were decorated, like triumphal arches. These arches are decorated with a remarkable bas-relief, which was devoted to subjects from Greek mythology.

In addition, the tower of the main gate is decorated with the emblem of Emperor Charles VI, as a memory of the fact that once the city bore the name of this autocrat - Karlsburg.
