Until 1765, in the modern place of the Rose Garden was a cemetery. Only in 1913 a garden was formed here. In the early twentieth century it was fashionable to create gardens with roses. Berne was no exception.
In total there are more than 220 varieties in the parkroses and two hundred varieties of irises. In the garden grow fragrant lindens. In the center of the garden there is an artificial pond with the monument "Europe and Neptune". Also in the park there is another monument located near the library - the bust of Jeremiah Gotthelf (the pseudonym of writer Albert Bitzius). On the perimeter of the park is a wall that has remained since the time of the cemetery.
